How to Use the Public Payphone
There are two types of public payphones available in Koyasan, which are analog and digital. There are only a few differences between the two types of phones available, and these differences are described in the table below.

|Phone use during normal operation
|Lift the receiver, insert money or telephone card, and then dial the number.
|When there is an emergency you do not need money or a telephone card to use the phone. Simply lift the receiver and dial 1-1-0.

|Using the phone during a power outage
|Phone cards cannot be used during a power outage.
*During a power outage, if there are multiple telephones at the same location some of the phones may not work.
|When there is a power outage the red light will not be lit, which indicates that the telephone is unable to accept a phone.
|Toll-Free Use (The telephones may be toll-free during an emergency)
|You do not need money or a telephone card. Lift the receiver and dial the number.
|Lift the receiver, insert money or telephone card, and dial the number. After your call is complete, the money or telephone card will be returned to you.
*1. For the Police please dial 110, and for the Fire Department or an ambulance please dial 119.
*2. Please note that you will be unable to make a call if the phone’s battery is dead.
*3. In case of a natural disaster, the public payphones may be be toll-free.
